Daniel Schmitt was born on March 27, 1993, in Würzburg, Germany. He spent his Catholic childhood and adolescence in Würzburg, where he also graduated from high school. After a year of voluntary social service working with children with behavioral difficulties and in a daycare center, he began his theological studies in Heiligenkreuz, Austria, in 2013. During this time, he lived in a seminary-style student residence in Mayerling and reflected deeply on his vocation. After successfully completing his studies in 2019, he entered the Vienna Seminary as a lateral entrant, where he was ordained a deacon by Auxiliary Bishop Franz Scharl in 2023. In this role, he served in the parish of St. Teresa of Calcutta in Vienna-Baumgarten. He is passionate about classical choral music and liturgical studies. Outside of his church activities, he is a keen soccer player and enjoys playing sports. He will celebrate his first Mass as a priest on Sunday, June 23, at St. Anne's Church. The Baumgarten Church Choir will provide the music for the service, performing Mozart's Coronation Mass.
