Fabrizio Cammarata - Hold And Stay (Official Video)
Hold and Stay is the new single and video from the Sicilian artist Fabrizio Cammarata. Fabrizio has been travelling far and wide with his well-received album Rooms, opening shows for many A-list stars including Ben Harper, Patti Smith, Daniel Johnston and Hindi Zahra as well as completing many successful tours across Europe.
'The time I’ve spent in the photographic laboratory over the last months has taught me a lot about time. In there I get the feeling that every step of the process, from the shoot to the print, is only partially intentional and lucid. There is something you can’t control, and it can lead to a masterpiece or to a total flop. Most of it depends on time. Relationships? It works the same way. The way you deal with time can make your beloved become a soft grey scale picture, or you can shake it exceedingly and let it burn into deep blacks and crazy whites.'
Hold and Stay and the accompanying video have been created by the best of Sicilian creative talent. The track was recorded and mixed at Indigo studios with Francesco Vitaliti and Fabio Rizzo. Director Manuela di Pisa is known for producing some of the best Italian music videos of recent times and the conceptual design for the video was developed in collaboration between Manuela and acclaimed visual artist Ignazio Mortellaro. On the subject of what the team were trying to communicate about the song, Fabrizio muses that
'Hold And Stay is about distance – in a figurative way – in a relationship. When two lovers want to keep away from each other's secrets because otherwise it would mean to link their lives with a bond too strong. So we decided to take two mysterious black figures, inspired by the world of photographers Mustafa Sabbagh and Kimiko Yoshida. Neither looks at the other in the face, thus not knowing they are identical. Also, one could see it as the same person deciding to ignore the other half of oneself'. This has led to a rather fascinating dichotomy between the, on the surface, breezy nature of the song, and the darker subtext of the lyrical content which explores an almost schizophrenic mindset that can emerge from a troubled relationship reaching a breaking point. After Fabrizio wrote Hold and Stay it was actually Damien Rice who first heard it during an impromptu after-show group jam session.
