Carburetor Tuning a 1985 Honda ATC 250R - Curtie The Carb Whisperer Comes To Town!
If you've been following the channel for any amount of time, you know of my 1985 ATC250R that I've had since high school that I've recently completed a custom restoration on. It looks better than I could have imagined, but... I haven't been successful in getting the carburetor dialed in. I've come to the conclusion that proper carb tuning is part black magic, part hocus pocus, 17% luck, one 3rd know how, and a pinch of some Merlin-level sorcery... None of which I possess.
As mentioned in the video, my buddy Curtie, who possesses all those things in abundant quantities, have had a few failed attempts at getting my machine dialed in, but finally concocted a plan to get it done. He flew up solo for a weekend so I had him all to myself! So we knocked it out and I couldn't be happier! This thing rips like an animal now.
This video shows Curtie take my machine from an "as found" condition to properly dialed in. The general steps he takes to achieve this would be the same across the board... BUT... the specs of your machine and the settings you end up at will likely be different. This is just what we discovered worked for my machine.
We use a new product that Curtie has on his website www.223cycles.net and it proved very helpful; The Big Bubba Auxiliary gas tank. That made dialing the carburetor so much easier.
