Ranked number #14 in the country by U.S. News and World Report, the Children’s Mercy Neonatology Division cares for more than 1,000 patients annually in its 83-bed NICU, as well as 160 to 165 patients a day through 10 other NICU programs in the community. In this episode of Powering Children’s Potential, Children’s Mercy CEO Paul Kempinski talks with Steven Olsen, MD, Neonatology Division Director, about how the division is bringing academic medicine to critically ill newborns throughout Missouri and Kansas.
With a translational research focus on the lungs and intestinal tract of premature babies, and partnership with the Genomic Medicine Center to achieve earlier diagnosis, the division is focused on providing the best neonatology care and improving long-term outcomes for newborns with complex conditions.
