CloudStack supports many managed storage solutions via storage plugins as the primary storage and one such widely used managed storage is Dell PowerFlex (formerly known as VxFlexOS or ScaleIO).
Using this PowerFlex primary storage in CloudStack can perform various instance and volume lifecycles such as instance deployment, volume creations and migrations.
Though there were a few limitations with volume migrations - now, the community has improved all scenarios of the volume migrations and made it complete.
The following are the supported scenarios:
Supports both encrypted or non-encrypted volumes which are attached to either stopped or running VM.
Supports migration within the same PowerFlex storage cluster, along with snapshots, using the native V-Tree (Volume Tree) migration operation.
Supports migration across different PowerFlex storage clusters, without snapshots, through block copy (using qemu-img convert) of the disks, by mapping the source and target disks (with RAW format) in the same host, which acts as an SDC.
This feature was released in the CloudStack 4.18.1.0 release.
