•You will be able to stand in the evening, walk the day after surgery and confident to go home in 2-3 days.
•Minimal pain may persist for 6-8 weeks, but will resolve eventually.
•Your knee may feel warm, swollen and stiff.
•This usually settles in 3-4 months.
•Numbness of skin around the incision is normal.
•Area of numbness usually decreases with time.
•Occasionally, you may feel soft clicking of metal and plastic with knee bending.
•These differences often diminish with time.
•Happiness and satisfaction after surgery usually set in at 4-6 months and the knee keeps improving up to a year.
•You will be made to stand and walk with the aid of a walker in the evening after the operation.
•You will progress to walking independently with a stick, be able to use stairs, get on and off the bed, & use the toilet prior to leaving the hospital.
•You should put all your weight through your operated knee as you stand or walk, making sure that the knee is kept as straight (locked) as possible.
•Take short, equal steps.
•Keep your back straight.
