Castle in Nidzica
( Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship/ Poland ).
It is a Teutonic castle, which construction started in 1370. During its history the castle often changed owners. Still, the most tragic times were 1806-1812, when there was a French garrison here and 1945 when Soviet soldiers bombarded the castle and left it in ruins. The castle reconstruction was performed only in 1961-1965. Currently, the castle is town’s business, culture and entertainment centre. We can find here: a museum with history and ethnographic exhibitions, a sculpture workshop, a gallery, a knights’ society, a library, a restaurant and a hotel. In the castle’s Gothic scenery there are concerts, vernissages, conferences, banquets and balls organized. The castle is also surrounded by pleasant, 19th century park. Nidzica castle is a place to be if you plan sightseeing in warminśko-mazurskie region.
