Chesil Beach was ravaged by high waves during a storm event on the 5th February 2014.
The community on Portland is protected by a combination of sea walls and an engineered shingle beach. MIKE 3 Wave FM has been used to simulate this storm event and subsequent flooding behind defences.
MIKE 3 Wave FM includes handling of wave breaking, wave run-up and overtopping with robust flooding and drying for coastal inundation. For the first time in a wave model, overtopping of impermeable structures and transmission through porous defences can be modelled in a single domain (by use of a 3D porosity map).
