Another infrequent video on sim soaring in MSFS with my usual sketchy production quality, this time about the NB21 Logger developed by Unbe and me 4Q 2023.
The NB21 Logger is designed to reliably record IGC-format flight tracklogs for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The aviation-standard format means the tracklogs can be viewed in any application/website support IGC, but the B21 Task Planner takes particular advantage of additional MSFS info than can be embedded in the tracklog file by the NB21 Logger.
The NB21 Logger has a couple of features that make it particularly suited to logging from a simulator: (i) the time source for the time/lat/long/alt records is the main Windows PC time in UTC. This makes the recorded file much more resilient against all the odd things that can happen to the time inside the simulator. (ii) the NB21 Logger also records the local date/time from the sim. So you get the best of both worlds, all other loggers choose one or the other. FWIW the NB21 Logger also records a checksum into the IGC file that can be confirmed by the free online B21 Task Planner, so you can be sure the recording is exactly as saved by the logger, this means recordings of things like SLEW or RATE changes in the sim are secure.
