A container ship is a large vessel that carries cargo in standardized containers that can be easily loaded and unloaded. One of the ports that receives container ships from different parts of the world is Port Everglades, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Port Everglades is one of the nation's leading container ports and a trade gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. It has direct access to the interstate highway system, the FEC rail hub and the Atlantic Shipping Lanes. Port Everglades has recently welcomed some of the largest container ships ever to visit the port, such as MSC's Kotor Bay, which is longer than an aircraft carrier and can carry more than 8,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). Port Everglades is also planning to widen and deepen its channels to accommodate even larger ships in the future, especially after the Panama Canal expansion is completed.
