Lie down & play VR games on the bed! ALVR quick guide, how to do lying down VR Quest 2 Quest 3 2024
Finally you can play PC VR games on the bed while lying down! It's an extremely overlooked feature. Even Meta's v63 "lay down" accessibility mode still isn't widely available, but with ALVR streaming app (or Virtual Desktop/Steam Link/Airlink for UEVR games only) you can finally lie down, relax and enjoy all the best PCVR has to offer!
Lying down VR (laying down?) is especially suitable if you have any sort of disability, mobility limitation, can't stand nor sit for a long time, if you are too tired or even if you simply feel lazy and want to chill. VR while on the bed is perfect for all those scenarios.
Quick guide on how to set ALVR (for free!) for Lying Down:
1. Download, install and connect ALVR between Quest and Windows as per this guide: https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/wiki...
2. Go to ALVR (Windows client) Settings tab:
set "Position recentering mode" to "Local";
set "View height" slider to "0.7m" (or what's more comfortable for you);
set "Rotation recentering mode" to "Tilted".
3. Later, when in VR game, hold Oculus button to reorient your playspace.
Summary:
1. All PCVR titles work while lying down via ALVR, including:
Native VR games (eg. Breachers in the video);
Luke Ross flat2VR mods (eg. Elden Ring);
UEVR mods (eg. Insurgency: Sandstorm, Everspace 2).
2. UEVR mods work while lying down even via VD/Steam Link/Airlink (tested on Everspace 2 via VD in the video). Kindly note, that it's possible since UEVR provides a variety of camera controls and options, but it may require some tinkering in UEVR profile (depends on the game).
All in all, I'm really amazed that using ALVR it's finally possible to set custom tilted angled horizon for my VR playspace + set custom VR floor offset. Lazy gaming to everyone!
