Men Imitating Machines play 100% live electronica using Ableton Live, Roland midi drums and an Industrial Radio midi bass.
In this video, three different synths can be heard from the hi-hat strikes:
-one synth triggered by the open hi-hat strike;
-one synth triggered by the closed hi-hat strike, and;
-one synth triggered by the foot pedal closing.
Using Max for Live (a patch by Herrmutt Lobby called 'note to follow' - https://herrmuttlobby.com), the pitch of the E string on the bass controls the pitch of the hi-hat synths triggered by the drummer. Lead is also played by the bass player on the remaining 3 strings.
It's really great fun having a drummer playing a pitched rhythm that is being controlled in real time from the bass....so much future.
