A paddler’s paradise, Kiser Lake is a tranquil, human-made lake in the heart of Ohio’s glaciated landscape in northwestern Champaign County. Ice Age glaciers left behind numerous landforms that shaped the region. In 1939, an earthen dam was built, and Kiser Lake as we know it was established. Today, the area landscape includes Kiser Lake and its associated wetlands and fens that are home to many unique and rare species of plants. ODNR geologists Andy Nash and Mike Angle naturalist Michelle Comer briefly explain the complex glacial geology and environmental features observed at Kiser Lake during the Legacy Geology Hike in June 2024.
