'Beowulf' and Things with Ophelia Eryn Hostetter
Dr Ophelia Eryn Hostetter (she/they) is an Associate Professor in Department of English and Communication at Rutgers University-Camden, where she studies and teaches medieval literature, language and culture, critical theory, queer literary history, food & eating in literature, and translation. She is the author of Political Appetites: Food in Medieval English Romance (2017, The Ohio State University Press), which explores food and cooking in medieval English romance narratives & the co-editor of a collection of pedagogical essays, Teaching “Beowulf” (with Larry Swain; Medieval Institute Publications/De Gruyter, 2024). Dr. Hostetter’s scholarly articles have appeared in The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, Studies in Philology, New Medieval Literatures, and The Cambridge Companion to Food and Literature. She also is the creator and translator of The Old English Poetry Project, an extensive, open-access collection of Old English poetry, and her more recent “(re)translations” of the Exeter Book Riddles have been published in Ancient Exchanges, the Trinity Journal of Literary Translation, and the New England Review, among others.
