Friday Prayers at the Sultan Ternate Mosque
The Sultan Ternate Mosque is a mosque located on Jalan Sultan Khairun, Soa Sio Village, North Ternate District, Ternate City, North Maluku. This mosque is evidence of the existence of the first Islamic Sultanate in the eastern part of the Indonesian archipelago. The Ternate Sultanate adopted Islam under the 18th king, Kolano Marhum, who reigned from 1465 to 1486 AD. Kolano Marhum's successor was his son, Zainal Abidin (1486-1500), who then changed Kolano's title to Sultan, established Islam as the official religion of the kingdom, implemented Islamic law, and established royal institutions in accordance with Islamic law, involving Islamic scholars.
