A Retrospective Look At Highschool Of The Dead
Highschool Of The Dead was basically my introduction to anime, and was one I absolutely ADORED as a middle schooler. However, nostalgia got the best of me and after taking a retrospective look at Highschool Of The Dead, I do have to say that its hilariously bad…however it’s a “so bad its good” anime that I would absolutely recommend be watched at least once. With a group of friends. So you can laugh at it being hilariously bad and bond over that.
Highschool Of The Dead is a campy zombie, action, and fanservice packed anime thats incredibly over-the-top. It's about a group of high schoolers, nurse, child, and a dog surviving a zombie outbreak; showcasing all the struggles from creepy teachers and robbers to the zombies themselves. They go from the nightmare thats the zombie infested high school, to the open city, to one of the characters houses as they cant escape the zombies or the hilariously bad fanservice driven plot.
As much as I have my issues with it, Highschool Of The Dead is just so bad it's good, this anime being very clearly a product of its time. Its a flawed gem of a so bad its good anime, and if anything this retrospective analysis and review of Highschool Of The Dead has made me appreciate how far we’ve come with anime…and how badly I wish there was a season 2 for Highschool Of The Dead and a real conclusion to this cult classic.
