Additive manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing is being adopted by many industries as it helps in bringing innovative products to market at lower cost and with speed. With the synergy of digital technologies and Industry 4.0, AM is impacting the entire spectrum of enterprises activities from conceptualization to manufacturing. Since 2015, it has been observed that many Indian organisations such as aeronautical, automotive, defense, energy, medical, manufacturing and tooling sectors set up dedicated AM departments and the number of projects handled by them is growing annually. Satellites of ISRO, electric vehicles of automotive industries, medical devices of bioengineering groups, reengineered tools of manufacturing units, RF feeders of electronic companies and monolithic drones of armed forces are some of the Indian case studies that showcase versatile use of AM. Commercial application of AM been playing a big role in our day-to-day operations due to quick and very easy customization to customer needs.
