There are ideas expressed that the Royal Family considered themselves superior to the masses. I don't think that was the case. It was a different mentality back then and the new science was a fascination for everyone. It was the scientist and philosophers who thought that and promoted it. In hindsight we can see now how dangerous it can be if used in the wrong hands.
