After installation and loading, may be the first thing what you need to do - is set up keyboard key for calling flight plan and the M C D U widgets.
Go to X-Plane settings, keyboard, and assign keyboard key for this 2 commands. One - to call M C D U widget, another - for Flight Plan widget.
So, I am just click F5 key for calling M C D U widget and F6 key for calling flight plan widget.
I am back to the cockpit and click F 5 and next click F 6 - now I have both widgets on the screen.
Let me open some flight plan to demonstrate how the flight plan widget work. I am open INIT page and enter co-route from E D D M to E D D L airports.
Just after I am insert flight plan to M C D U - lateral plan appear at flight plan widget.
You can move your flight plan and zoom it. To zoom flightplan you need to hold left mouse button in the centre of this map and next move your mouse. To move your flight plan you need hold left mouse button outside of the centre of this map and move your mouse.
You can use show buttons to show and hide some special points like N D B, W O R, Way Points and airports, and also - show and hide constraints.
TO P P O S button allow you to place map view in the centre of your aircraft.
Show details button will show you the list of flightplan waypoints.
Next button - is vertical profile button. Now I am click it, but have no vertical profile drawing. This happen because I am not enter cruize flight level, and not enter aircraft gross weight. Let me do this right now. Okay. Now we have vertical profile drawing on the flight plan widget.
We see departure airport, climb profile path, Top Of Climb point, cruize profile path, Top Of Descent, descent path, approach path with arrival airport.
Next - let me select SID departure for this flightplan. First point is give me - so, I will select 8 Right runway and different SIDs, to show them on plan widget. Finally, I am select give me 6 E departure.
All constraints will draw on the flight plain widget, and I can check them on the flight plan M C D U page, by clicking on the vertical review.
Aircraft settings allow you to set up show and hide M C D U widget options using M C D U menu settings page. Select next, and setup Load With M C D U option to show or hide widget just after loading aircraft.
And yes, you may use only navigation display to view your flightplan, and M C D U flightplan page, to view flightplan waypoint altitude. Navigation display have different ranges and different modes, what allow you control lateral flight plan and situation. But there is no aircraft default tool, what can show you vertical profile. Flight plan widget - is flexible tool, what allow you to review flight plan and vertical profile during all stage of the flight, and mostly during flight plan preparation.
