We’re back in this excerpt from the Gibson Custom Shop tour with Dinesh and Gavin! Today, we’re looking at the final assembly of your Gibson Custom guitar. This is what happens when your guitar is put together in Gibson Custom final assembly.
You may or may not know that Gibson Custom guitars undergo additional neck preparation, where the fingerboard is cleaned up and the edges of the fingerboard are rolled for additional comfort when you’re playing. This attention to detail on the neck is why Gibson Custom guitars feel and look so good and is one of the major benefits of Gibson Custom guitars!
Next, the tuning keys are installed. The tuners are fitted into place by hand with precision, using precision drills and time-honored techniques and hardware specific to the type and model of guitar we’re building.
Next up – it’s the electronics section! Watch as Dinesh looks at the all-historic parts used in your Gibson Custom guitar, including high-quality parts like Bumblebee capacitors, which were originally used in classic models from the ’50s, and how they’re soldered in place by hand. Every aspect of the wiring and hardware—down to the smallest components like the phonebook or Bumblebee capacitors—are given careful attention to replicate the iconic sounds of Gibson’s rich heritage. The guitar you get sounds JUST how it should!
Finally, the guitar moves to the final setup area, where pickups like Custombuckers (which replicate the classic Patent Applied For pickups from the late 1950s and early 1960s) are installed. With the electronics in place, your guitar truly comes to life, ready for a final quality check and stringing before it’s ready to go home with you!
