Friday's stream was a disaster from a technical standpoint. Intermittently I've had both DBD and OBS crash (which OBS should NEVER crash btw) ever since the patch dropped. After the stream I was trying to see if there's anything I could to help mitigate some of these problems, and upon searching for "DBD crashes on Initializing Shaders", it brought up a forum thread from patch 7.7.0 when the game migrated to Unreal Engine 5 - https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-dayli...

In that thread there's some details about how 13th & 14th gen CPUs, confirmed by Intel, of some sort of irreversible circuitry issue which could rapidly age the computer's chips - https://www.radgametools.com/oodleint...

Now I didn't know all this hoopla was going on with the CPU stuff and I'm hoping this was just something I caught early on because I never had OBS just flat out Crash. DBD has shit its pants before but not on the "Initializing Shaders" part like it's been consistently doing.

Since this stream, I've gone ahead and updated my BIOS at the very least since the newer updates contain patches to prevent that Intel circuitry issue. If you're having this issue with DBD or any UE5 game, I also highly recommend that you should do the same too considering my BIOS settings were from 2023.

I've also updated my NVIDIA driver (the most recent update was on June 17th, 2025 as of this posting and I had the one before it.), and Windows Updates (ironically enough just an Intel Display update). I'm hoping I caught whatever this hiccup was early on before any long-term damage happened. I've also added a "-DX11" parameter in the launch options for steam to force DirectX11, which I don't think particularly works for DBD, but DBD's janky enough to maybe trick the game that it works. Who knows? If problems persist I might have to look into possibly undervolting the CPU which is completely foreign to me.

Also OBS for whatever reason spikes to 8% now when games happen when prior to this it would be at 1-2% as well as the game made my computer run hot (it was also like near 100°F without A/C at the time which I'm sure didn't help either). So I'm wondering if something with this patch is buggy in that regard that's making things more stressed on the system. Since applying the updates, the computer runs warm but the spiking of 8% still happens.

Anyway I just wanted to clear up things and weird how this issue popped up NOW of all times instead of a year ago when the UE5/DX12 update to DBD happened. I'll keep trying to edit these in the event of crashing still occurs in the future.
