Creative Process | Semi-abstract Watercolor Landscape
This is the creative process booklet I made for the exhibition 'Absolutely New' 12-26 Oct 2023 at Awegallery, Petaling Jaya.
It is a process where I get to paint wet-in-wet landscape, starting from realistic scenes, end up with semi-abstract approaches:
As I mulled over the theme ‘Absolutely New’, the keywords that came to my mind were: wet-in-wet, abstract, semi-abstract, atmospheric, spontaneous, poetic … These are all different to the usual realistic and detailed approach to my paintings of cityscapes and street views.
This time I chose nature as my topic, loving its beauty, harmony and vitality.
However, nature is ever-changing. It has peaceful moments of warm sunlight as well as harsh and wild storms. We coexist with nature regardless of its benevolence or cruelty. Nonetheless, nature has an astonishing power to calm restless hearts, bringing joy to those who see its real beauty.
Combining the aforementioned elements, I painted these pieces as a foray into different ways of creating. I wish to present the glory of nature through my art; hoping that we will appreciate and protect nature in all its original beauty.
