Die HMS Bellerophon, oft auch “Billy Ruffian” genannt, war eine 74-Kanonen dritte Klasse Linienschiff der Royal Navy. Sie wurde 1786 in Auftrag gegeben und 1790 vom Stapel gelassen. Während ihrer Dienstzeit spielte sie eine entscheidende Rolle in einigen der bekanntesten Seeschlachten der napoleonischen Ära, darunter die Schlachten bei den Glorious First of June, Trafalgar und die Niederlage der französischen Flotte bei Aboukir. Ihre wohl berühmteste Rolle war es, Napoleon Bonaparte nach seiner endgültigen Niederlage in der Schlacht von Waterloo im Jahr 1815 an Bord zu nehmen und ihn zur britischen Insel St. Helena im Südatlantik zu bringen.
The HMS Bellerophon, often referred to as “Billy Ruffian”, was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line in the Royal Navy. She was commissioned in 1786 and launched in 1790. During her service, she played a pivotal role in some of the most notable naval battles of the Napoleonic era, including the battles of the Glorious First of June, Trafalgar, and the defeat of the French fleet at Aboukir. Perhaps her most famous role was to take Napoleon Bonaparte on board after his final defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 and transport him to the British island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic.
