Students will learn how to:
Given the name of an element, write its correct symbol; from the symbol write the correct name.
Use the periodic table to identify the group and the period of an element; identify an element as a metal, a nonmetal, or a metalloid.
Given the atomic number, mass number and charge of an atom, state the number of protons, electrons and neutrons.
Determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in one or more of the isotopes of an element; calculate the average atomic mass of an element using the percent abundance and masses of naturally occurring isotopes.
