Escaping California's Deadliest Wildfires: Music Inspired By Our Experience
In 2018, my wife and I were evacuated from raging wildfires in Southern California. At the time, my wife was just entering her third trimester with our soon-to-be daughter. The experience was horrifying and moving all at once. There were moments when the smoke was so thick that we could not see in front of our car. I poured a bottle of water into an old shirt for my wife to breathe into since we had no masks available. On the highway, flames stretched as far as the eye could see. We were unbelievably fortunate to have friends south of the fires who took us in for a week until the smoke cleared.
When we arrived home, this piece of music poured out, and years later, I felt inspired to make this video to express the mix of emotions from such an event.
