Pollinator Plant Habitats - An Eagle Scout Project to Save the Bees

A pollinator is an organism that helps move the pollen from plant to plant, therefore helping them grow. Pollinators are responsible for bringing us 1 out of every 3 bites of food we eat. In 2013, NPR reported that “Farmers who grow crops like almonds, blueberries and apples rely on commercial beekeepers to make sure their crops get pollinated.” Pollinators like bees are essential for agricultural production.
Just like you and I might prefer certain foods over others, pollinators do too! Pollinators such as honeybees prefer certain flowers and plants. I have done research and come up with three pollinator-friendly plants that I will be planting in my service project and that I encourage every scout and every family to consider planting. Physocarpus capitatus, mahonia aquifolium, and ribes sanguineum are loved by bees and attract them.
