Cars are being stolen all over Europe! The good news right at the beginning: In a direct EU comparison, Germany is one of the safest countries when it comes to car theft. Per 100,000 inhabitants, 71 cars are reported stolen - 17th place in the EU ranking. So, here is the result of a Eurostat analysis. First place goes to Italy: It leads the ranking with 276 cars per 100,000 citizens. Extrapolated to the total number of registered vehicles, 455 cars are stolen from their owners there every day. That's 19 thefts per hour! The Czech Republic is in 2nd place with 274 cars, followed by Sweden in 3rd place with 266 vehicles. In each of these countries, three cars are stolen per hour.

France leads the list of Germany's neighbors with 4th place (261 thefts). Here, 85 cars are reported stolen per 100,000 inhabitants. The neighbor in the far north has the fewest thefts: In Denmark, just five cars are stolen per 100,000 citizens.
