We were asked to come up with something "fun" for the release of the above product. This video was made to get peoples attention to a Facebook contest.
The hardest part was to come up with a clever idea for the product. But once I came up with the idea to compare it with something "less modern" (to make the actual product seem cooler), the future felt brighter.
Short breakdown of the process:
Bought Casio model on TurboSquid. Modified the wristbands to make it feel more 80'ies plastic.
Got CAD drawing of actual product from Sony. Convertet it to polys and made new shaders.
Brought out the butcher knife and chopped up the models. Animated the transformation.
Added more pieces to make the transformation look more busy.
Made a quick low quality render to see if it matches the copy. Also served as a guide for the sound guy.
Made a mock-up in After Effects with both copy, screens, lcd-animations and soundtrack.
Adjusted 3D animation and started to render out a beauty pass, together with a depth and reflection pass. Plus a compositing file for After Effects and object buffers for masking.
Put everything together in After Effects, except the sound (we weren't happy with it yet)
Finally I combined the audio and video in Premiere, just to be able to quickly replace the soundtrack.
Completed in little over a week. As always I wished there was more time. I really wanted to add more detail to the transformation. Another day perhaps.
