Astadala Padmam is one of the sacred kolams drawn on fridays & auspicious events in Indian pooja rooms.
Starting with a center dot and 4 dots added in all 8 directions. Forming line of 9 dots in total.
It is drawn with a single line that goes through a series of dots to form a representation of the lotus
First rule to follow is 1-3-1.
Start with dot 1 on the first line then go upto dot 3 on the next line and come back to 1 again.
One starts to draw from a point, travels through a fixed path & returns to the starting point, akin to life - a journey that begins from a point & goes back to it in the end.
Similarly follow 2-4-2 rule twice.
Make sure the kolam is never trampled on and drawn. The belief is that drawing this patten ensures spiritual benefits, success & wealth by invoking goddess Lakshmi.
One can practice this kolam on paper and get comfortable before drawing it on
