Meet Ivan Podushkin, the last Moscow gentleman and personal secretary to an elderly millionairess.
And it all began like this... One day, before Ivan Podushkin's eyes, a car hits his mistress's granddaughter. The accidental witnesses are members of the TV show "Unbelievable Situation." Actually, the story could have ended there, since Ivan, unlike Dontsova's other characters, isn't obsessed with private detective work. How could he, a respectable bachelor in his prime, a Tolkien scholar and poet, be chasing bandits? But his eccentric mistress, Eleanor, having read too many detective novels, imagines herself a Nero Wolfe and demands decisive action from the poor Podushkin, Archie Goodwin-style. Now he must become the "eyes" and "legs" of the Great Detective!
