Words and Music by War. Performed by Danny and the Pomegranate County Irregulars. A video that provides one answer to the question "What you gonna do on a Sunday morning in Thousand Oaks." Serendipity On, I suppose. Back in mid-December 1972, my friend John R. and I were picked up by his Dad after going to a Santa Barbara Astronomy Club meeting. 14 year old John had extraordinary control over his Dad's car radio and zip it went to KACY, the better of the local Top 40 stations. War's recording was climbing in the Top Ten at the time, and between the cold California night and the eerie jazz blues, I was decided then that pop music was art that could surprise and I could love deeply. While there may be only one first kiss, there have been many times when I heard a song for the first time and that long-ago joy is as real and as fresh as a minute ago. In honor of that 40th anniversary, I interpret the song and medley it with a verse from Wayfarin' Stranger.
