Этот фильм был сделан в тысяча девятьсот пятьдесят восьмом году. Свои три года Бровкин уже отслужил и возвратился в свой родной колхоз, где ждала его мама и любимая девушка Люба. Но что-то там занеполадилось и Бровкин уехал поднимать целину, прихватив с собой ещё буфетчицу Полину и Николая Бухвалова с его женой и ребёнком. На целинных землях они все устроились на работу не в старинный советский колхоз, то есть, коллективное хозяйство, как дома. А в совхоз - советское государственное предприятие.
Здесь всё было иначе. Руководил совхозом наёмный директор, а не выборный председатель, как в колхозе. Здесь было много земли, много техники. А работали в совхозе наёмные работники, а не какие-то члены колхоза. Для наёмных работников в совхозе строилось жильё, которое тоже являлось собственностью государства, а не частной собственностью, как в колхозе. Вот так променял Иван Бровкин свой колхоз, где он был совладельцем и участвовал в выборах председателя. На совхоз, где всё - включая землю - принадлежало не ему, а советскому государству.
This film was made in 1958. Brovkin had already served his three years and returned to his native collective farm, where his mother and beloved girl Lyuba were waiting for him. But something went wrong there and Brovkin left to cultivate the virgin lands, taking with him the barmaid Polina and Nikolai Bukhvalov with his wife and child. In the virgin lands, they all got jobs not in the old Soviet collective farm, that is, a collective farm, like at home. But in a state farm - a Soviet state enterprise. Everything was different here. The state farm was run by a hired director, and not an elected chairman, as in the collective farm. There was a lot of land, a lot of equipment. And hired workers worked in the state farm, and not some members of the collective farm. For hired workers, housing was built in the state farm, which was also the property of the state, and not private property, as in the collective farm. This is how Ivan Brovkin traded his collective farm, where he was a co-owner and participated in the elections of the chairman, for a state farm, where everything - including the land - belonged not to him, but to the Soviet state.
