History of Dubai
Dubai. The city of Biggest. Tallest and the best of everything. we have on earth.
Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. It has the second most five-star hotels in the world.
and the tallest building in the world. Yeah. the Burj Khalifa.
All this started in the 18th century as a small fishing village. the city grew rapidly in the early 21st century into a cosmopolitan with a focus on tourism and hospitality.
The smart and elegant city of Dubai was once a lonely fishing harbor. that was largely dependent on oil, pearl diving, and trade.
A town of some 700–800 members of the Bani Yas tribe.
According to archaeological evidence. Dubai started as far back as the Bronze Age. It gradually became a creek settlement that was led by the Maktoum family by 1833.
The deserted creek became very successful trade port. by the turn of the 20th century and a business focal point from. traders from North African. Asian and European countries.
Oil was discovered in Dubai in 1966. The ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed. decided that the revenue from the discovered oil should be used to develop the city.
Merchants from neighboring countries flocked in to trade fish, pearl, gold, spices, and textiles. This positioned Dubai as a major trading hub.
Dubai signed the General Maritime Treaty of 1820, with the British government. following the British campaign in against the Ras Al Khaimah. This led to the 1853 Perpetual Maritime Truce.
Dubai also like its neighbours on the Trucial Coast, entered into an exclusivity agreement. in which the United Kingdom took responsibility for the emirate's security in 1892.
In 1896. fire broke out in Dubai, A disastrous occurrence in a town, where many family homes were still constructed from barasti palm fronds. The conflagration consumed half the houses of Bur Dubai. while the district of Deira was said to have been totally destroyed.
In the early days since its inception. Dubai was constantly at odds with Abu Dhabi. In 1947, a border dispute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi on the northern sector of their mutual border. escalated into war.
Meanwhile Arbitration by the British government resulted in a cessation of hostilities.
Due to lack of oil. Dubai's ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed also took loan from british government. to build infrastructure. Private companies were established to build and operate infrastructure. including electricity, telephone services, and both the ports and airport operators.
The year 1971, the federation of the United Arab Emirates formed under the leadership of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed.
The nation comprised of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah, with Abu Dhabi as capital.
Under the visionary leadership of the Sheikh. the UAE embarked on ambitious social projects.
The Gulf War escalated in early 1991, and had a negative financial effect on the city. as depositors withdrew their money and traders withdrew their trade. but subsequently, the city recovered in a changing political climate and thrived.
In 1995. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed, became the Crown Prince of Dubai. He supervised the execution of projects such as the opening of Jebel Ali port in 1979.
The inauguration of Jebel Ali Free Zone in 1985. the launch of the Burj Al Arab in 1999.
Dubai Metro was launched to accommodate the increasing traffic in 2009. and 2010 witnessed the construction of the Burj Khalifa. the tallest building in the world.
Since, It has been booming its prospesperity. which we call now Dubai.
