"P. Morris ditches the club on 'Morrisworks', spinning ambient and classical sounds with light, dubby drumwork and cinematic jazz flourishes.
P. Morris has been releasing taut, fwd-facing club music for the last decade, but he's also been recording lower-key material in the sidelines. 'Morrisworks' collects up a selection of this gear, recorded between 2008 and 2023, and follows the equally engaging '13 Pieces for Piano & Strings' that appeared a while back. This release is a little more light hearted, interspersing cinematic orchestral pieces like 'mesto' and 'inner city' with dubbier cuts like 'sea (los angeles ambient mix)' and the Basic Channel-like 'tension'.
The most generous track is 13-minute opener 'Rock 2', a durational experiment that's not entirely beatless but leans into the ambient groove. Elsewhere 'modern' gets a baroque 'orchestral mix' and 'empty' obscures a slowed-down house groove in a soulful soup of filtered vocals and fingerclicks."
