Saint Life: Saint Edmund Campion: The Jesuit Martyr Who Defied a Queen
In an age when the Catholic faith was outlawed and priests were hunted as traitors, one man stepped forward as a true champion of Christ: Saint Edmund Campion.
Once a brilliant young scholar favored by Queen Elizabeth I and admired at Oxford, Campion would later be branded an enemy of the state, secretly return to England, and ultimately be hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn for the Catholic faith.
This video tells the powerful, moving story of St. Edmund Campion – from his early promise as a gifted student, to his inner spiritual struggle during the English Reformation, to his reconciliation with the Catholic Church, entry into the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), and his dangerous underground mission to minister to persecuted Catholics in England.
You’ll discover:
– How the religious turmoil under Henry VIII, Mary I, and Elizabeth I shaped Edmund Campion’s soul
– Why he turned down comfort, prestige, and royal favor to follow Christ and His Church
– The incredible risks taken by priests, recusant families, and hidden Catholic communities
– Campion’s famous “Brag” and his “Ten Reasons” challenging Protestantism
– His arrest by priest hunters, torture in the Tower of London, sham trial, and heroic martyrdom at Tyburn
– How his blood and witness inspired others, including future martyr Henry Walpole
Campion’s final words, “I am a Catholic man and a priest, and in that faith I have lived, and in that faith do I intend to die,” still echo today as a call to courage, fidelity, and love for the truth.
