Initially all Bitcoin holders as of Bitcoin block number 507850 (~February 5 2018) received BTC2 on a 1 for 1 basis, without any action required to receive it and have it recorded in the Bitcoin 2 blockchain.
The Bitcoin 2 balances, addresses and supply were set to equal those of Bitcoin. So the initial distribution equals that of Bitcoin at the time of the fork.
In order to prune the Bitcoin blockchain from a massive 147 GB to less than 1.5 GB, we used a snapshot forking method instead of just directly copying the Bitcoin blockchain. That original size would have severely limited masternode creation and increased staking node hardware requirements. The initial Bitcoin 2 blockchain was pre-built to achieve that.
Supply of Bitcoin 2 started at 16848064.795 BTC2 on main net launch. Same as the supply of BTC on Bitcoin block number 507850 (~February 5 2018).
0.2 to 0.8 BTC2 is newly generated every block starting from the first Proof of Stake block when the main net is live until the maximum supply of 21 million BTC2 is reached. Out of the block reward amount, 3/4 goes to the block creator, and 1/4 goes to the masternode that ranks highest in the reward queue-like system.
