Tortillas. I bought flour tortillas because I didn’t have the time or energy to make them.
I’ve been making them consistently over the last year and only needing to buy them here or there.
I love making them because they taste fresh and I also know exactly what’s in them. But it really was good to buy them when I needed to. No one complained and we still enjoyed our food.
I put so much pressure on myself to make amazing home cooked food for my family. I’m sure you do too.
And while I believe that it is an inherently noble and good pursuit, it doesn’t have to be such a mind game.
I spent so much time that day worrying about whether or not I would make tortillas or buy them.
In fact I had a whole conversation about it with my sister-in-law @srfriesenpk who also struggles to purchase anything pre-made. .
We talked about how guilty we felt because we know we can make it at home.
It was stressful. I’m saying all of this to let you know that when you buy something pre-made from the store that is also a good option.
And even as I write this, I’m thinking about how I don’t think most store bought pre-made things are bad. Sigh Like bread or other things. It really is ok.
And maybe writing all of this out will help be content and not always put so much pressure on myself. I hope this perspective will help you too.
I also wanted to point out that whether or not it’s pre-made from the store, I know you still care a great deal about what you are consuming and feeding your family.
I know making everything from scratch is a lot of hard work and some people don’t have the time or energy to do it. I have the time most often because I am a stay at home mom and that is something my husband and I agreed upon.
I also will say that if you’d like to start doing more things homemade, look into meal planning and meal prep. It really does save you a lot of time. And you can keep it simple!
