Despite decades of commitments, policies and initiatives and strong efforts by many organisations and individuals, the humanitarian system has made limited progress in putting people affected by crisis at the centre of humanitarian actor. There are several key challenges, explained by a new ALNAP paper, that are still holding the system back. But there is now a new opportunity to tackle those challenges and make the necessary changes to structures, processes and mindsets that are needed to bring discussions of AAP out of a technocratic silo to become embedded in the architecture of an accountable and responsive humanitarian system.
This webinar interrogates some of those challenges and explores potential solutions to making meaningful change on accountability to people affected by crisis from the perspective of different humanitarian actors across the sector. A key aim of this panel event was to move beyond technical discussions of how to implement complaints and feedback mechanisms, to focus on the leadership level decisions, changes and investments that could create a supportive structure to implement an accountable humanitarian system.
ALNAP also launched a new paper 'From Tickbox to turning point: getting accountability right for improved humanitarian action'.

The paper outlines the core challenges holding the system back and provides 12 key recommendations for decision-makers in operational and donor agencies to make the structure, process and mindset shifts that would support meaningful, inclusive, and responsive accountability.
