So what are the two biggest mistakes singers make when trying to establish a new habit when it comes to practicing singing every day?
1️⃣ Not first identifying and eliminating the friction points (things that will create resistance or make it more difficult to do).
The main ones I see are:
being confused about WHAT to practice (specific exercises and techniques that will actually help you get your voice where you want it to go) and HOW
your environment not being "suitable" (worrying about annoying people in your house or neighbours, feeling self-conscious about being heard when you sing)
not having the right equipment (especially if you're recording your voice)
practice PTSD (finding singing practice frustrating or unenjoyable, mainly due to your own inner critic or perfectionism).
2️⃣ And then trying to bite off more than you can chew - setting hugely high standards for what "counts" as vocal practice. Setting the bar low helps you ESTABLISH a regular practice before layering on more complexity or length of time.
