Tekken 7 Screen Pumps. A standard screen pump but a bit different. Using the game's natural zoom algorithms, this tutorial shows how to utilize them to create harmonious transitions with the game's footage.

Set 2!!! This is the 6th part of a projected 9part series. Just like with Dragon Ball FighterZ, these tutorials will cover the transitions used in my Tekken 7 productions.

Transcript :
00:00 || Intro
00:19 || Align your clips and find a point you want for the transition
|*For this, you want to find a point where the in-game
camera zooms in (usually through a power hit)

|*Note: This is a standard screen pump. Due to
how Tekken is programmed, you can take
advantage of this effect by doing half of the work
00:37 || Find the midpoint of the zoom and cut it
|*4 frames to zoom in
and *20 frames zoomed
|*For the opacity keyframes, move the first one
forward by 9frames and place the second one
2frames in from its original position

00:54 || With your next clip trimmed to your desired starting frame, make sure it is aligned
behind the previous
|*For Tekken specifically, choosing a hit frame will give
this transition fluidity in terms of its normal zoom
01:11 || Set 2 keyframes for scale *5frames apart at the start of the 2nd clip
|*Do the same for Anchor Point and Position
then offset all keyframes by *5frames

01:27 || Add Motion Tile to all of the layers
|**Set the Output Height to *250
and activate Mirror Edges

|**Depending on the dimensions of your footage,
the Output Height will vary. Just make sure the
negative space is filled for the transition
01:29 || Use the pan behind tool (press *Y) and move the anchor point to the hitspark
|*Moving the anchor point will also move the position

|*The anchor point will determine where the zoom will focus on

|*Change the scale value to *150% for the first keyframe
01:43 || Easy Ease all Keyframes and turn on Motion Blur

01:55 || Transition Complete

Transcript :
02:19 || Align your clips and find a point you want for the transition
|*Note: I am starting the pump here so I will let the game’s
algorithm finish up for me.
02:34 || Set the Anchor Point, Position, and Scale keyframes just as in the previous pump
|*Make sure they are *5frames apart

|*Note: The frame distance is arbitrary and it is
up to you to decide what you like. This is just
my personal preference.

02:49 || Trim the next clip and align to follow behind midway through the in-game zoom
|*Note: The in-game zoom lasts around
*10 frames so halfway would be *5

|*Weirdly enough, measuring the amount of frames it took
to zoom in, how long it stays zoomed, and zoom out
varied occasionally depending on the attack

03:14 || Easy ease all Keyframes and enable Motion Blur

03:30 || Transition Complete

Transcript :
03:57 || Line up both lips to where they cut in the middle of their respective in-game zooms.
|*The zoom of the first clip is
*4frames in, *20frames hold, *5frames out
*20/2 = 10 so we cut it at frame *10
of the zoom

|*Note: The zoom timing is different depending
on if it is a power blow or a counter hit crush

04:21 || Set the Anchor Point, Position, and Scale keyframes just as in the previous pump
|*The zoom of the second clip is
*4frames in, *10frames hold, *5frames out

|*20/2 = 10 so we cut it at frame *10 of the zoom
00:49 || Trim the next clip and align to follow behind midway through the in-game zoom
|*Note: The in-game zoom lasts around
*10 frames so halfway would be *5

|*Weirdly enough, measuring the amount of frames it took
to zoom in, how long it stays zoomed, and zoom out
varied occasionally depending on the attack

04:42 || Transition Complete
