Here's one of the most popular scratch DJ techniques, explained in fine detail by OCDJ's Circles and Squares.

The crab scratch was invented in the 90s by Qbert, a turntablist technique that uses 2, 3, or 4 fingers in sequence and uses the thumb as a spring to cut out the fader. This creates a rapid fire sequence which in theory is much like the transform, but the result is usually much faster and the cut off is a bit less abrupt. The crab can be combined with several other record hand techniques and cross fader techniques which create endless creative possibilities. Before we get into all that though, lets take it one finger at a time!
