It is said that death and taxes are the only certainties in life, but ageing is another inevitable aspect of living, old or young.
A major £5M grant from BBSRC has established a new team called the Cambridge Centre for Ageing and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN) to study the brain and #CognitiveFunctions in the #AgeingPopulation.
The team of researchers, based at the University of Cambridge and the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, hope to unravel the mechanisms and processes of #healthybrain #ageing.
Uncover the secrets of the ageing brain, as the Cam-CAN team answers crucial questions, such as:
"Why such a divergence in the ages people slide into cognitive decline?"
"Why do people succumb to a spectrum of conditions known as Alzheimer's disease, while others live longer, healthier lives?"
It's not just about the elderly. The Cam-CAN project is researching the abilities of 18-year-olds too. Its full cohort of 3000 participants spans the full adult range of 18-88, as research suggests that #BrainFunction changes throughout our lifespan -- not just when we are older.
