Resistor color code scheme: The colors appear as a band on a cylindrically-shaped resistor. Keep the larger width tolerance band to the right side.
And start reading color code markings (one band at a time) from the left to the right.
Match the color of the first band and second band with its associated number in the digit column of the color chart to identify the first digit and second digit, respectively of the resistance value.
The third band is often referred to as the multiplier band. This color band is the number of zeroes to place after the first two digits. It's called the multiplier band because adding zeros is like multiplying by a power of 10.
brown is for 1 (first digit), black is for 0 (second digit) and red is for 2 zeros (or for multiplying by 10 to the power 2)
Using Digital Multimeter:
First, insert the black test lead into the COM jack.
Then insert the red lead into the VΩ jack.
Connect test leads across the end terminals of the resistor (component being tested). As the resistor is non-directional, it does not matter which lead goes where
Make sure that contact between the test leads and the circuit is good.
Turn digital multimeter dial to resistance, or ohms mode (omega symbol Ω), which often shares a spot on the dial with one or more other tests/measurement modes (continuity, capacitance or diode, etc.)
When finished, turn the multimeter OFF to prevent battery drain.
