How I Wrote My Best NaNoWriMo Draft Yet

In last April's Camp NaNo, I doubled my word count goal and wrote my very best first draft to date - almost by accident. Since then I've reflected on what I did right and which parts of my writing practise led to that success. So here are 10 things that led to that wild NaNoWriMo performance. I hope they help you get ready for November!

3:41 - No. 1: I knew the story really well.
5:57 - No. 2: I picked this story because it's fun.
7:59 - No. 3: I wasn't just writing for me.
9:28 - No. 4: I chose a story I could research.
11:50 - No. 5: My writing was just writing, not aesthetics.
13:59 - No. 6: When I wasn't writing, I was still working.
16:53 - No. 7: I chose music that could be a trigger.
19:00 - No. 8: I talked out the plot.
20:37 - No. 9: I limited other distractions.
23:02 - No. 10: I chose a story I thought was good.
