On July 23, 1998, the Bravo team of the S.T.A.R.S. special forces unit is sent to investigate a series of eerie and mysterious murders that occurred in the Arklay Mountains - a suburb of Raccoon City. On the way to the investigation site, the helicopter in which the police team was flying fails, and it crashes into the forest. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash. Continuing on foot, the team stumbles upon an overturned military police SUV, in which the bodies of two officers with strange marks on their bodies are found. According to the documents found, the car was transporting a criminal, a former military man guilty of murder, to the place of execution. Then the team decides to split up to expand the search area. The group's paramedic, Rebecca Chambers, stumbles upon a train that has stopped in the middle of the forest. Rebecca discovers that the stopped express is teeming with infected people - zombies. Having survived the first nightmare from meeting them, she finds a surviving person - a guy named Billy Cohen, a former Marine, who was transported by a car found in the forest. Now Rebecca and Billy become one team and move on together, defending themselves from attacking monsters: zombies, mutated dogs, leeches and a huge mutant scorpion. Suddenly, the train starts moving and picks up dangerous speed. Rebecca and Billy use the emergency brake and leave the train. An abandoned training complex appears before them.
