Joachim Gauck, the son of a Soviet Gulag survivor, chose to publicly denounce Communism regardless of the cost. As a Lutheran Pastor in East Germany, Gauck advocated from the pulpit to end Communist tyranny, and by 1990, democracy prevailed. In 2012, he was elected President of Germany, and continues to advocate for freedom and democracy across the globe as well as expose the crimes of Communism.
