ABOUT THE ARTIST :
KafaNar (meaning "Pomegranate-head") is a solo performance by multi-instrumentalist Deniz Mahir Kartal. Originally from Istanbul and now calling Berlin home, he bridges East and West through his music. KafaNar likens the musical memories Kartal has gathered throughout his life to pomegranate seeds, with each genre he has explored representing a different seed. These seeds come together to create a unified whole. While it may appear as a single entity from the outside, it holds within it a rich diversity of musical styles. This boundary-crossing approach integrates rare instruments like the kaval, duduk, and çağlama with vocals rooted in Anatolian traditions, taking the audience on a rhythmic journey that stirs both the imagination and the body. The performance incorporates electronic foundations, loops, and beats, drawing inspiration from Berlin's techno scene and blending it with Eastern musical instruments. Through KafaNar, he invites you to explore where cultural resonance meets artistic innovation, as tradition and modernity unite in perfect harmony.
