How Internet Travels Across Oceans?
A hidden network of undersea cables connect the entire internet and carries 99 percent of all Internet data
As of 2021, Internet traffic is routed through a network of over 420 underwater cables with a total length of 1.3 million kilometres by 2021.
These connections employ optical fiber to transmit data at 35 terabits per second on average.
Some of the newer cables, such as the Transatlantic Marea Cable that connects the US and Spain, can transmit data at 160 terabits per second.
