Why don’t we see a solar eclipse every month?
As you know, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth that either fully or partially blocks the Sun's light in some areas (3). Also the Moon takes approximately 27.3 days to complete one orbit around Earth. So shouldn’t we see a solar eclipse every month?
The reason we don’t is that the Moon’s orbit is tilted at about 5 degrees. Therefore even though the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, it’s shadow usually misses Earth.
