Veľkolélsky Island is part of the protected landscape area of the Danube Floodplains and is now mostly managed by BROZ (Bratislavské regionálne ochranárske združenie). 🇸🇮🏞
It is a great example of our main nature conservancy activities — river arm and wetland restoration, meadows restoration through grazing, protecting old floodplain forests and planting of new native forests, and animal protection. 🦫🌳💦
The aim of the International Youth Exchange camp in Slovakia was to introduce attendees to the relationship between #climate and #biodiversity by showing real-life examples of #climatechange impacts on #nature, species and #ecosystems as well as on local people (i.e. farmers). ⛺👫
The attendees also learned about the different practical conservation and #restoration activities done at Veľký Lél Island, which help to increase biodiversity and ecosystem resilience to the impacts of climate change. The field excursions were supplemented by workshops such as #climatecommunication, project management or how to manage #climateanxiety. 🗨🧑🏫
